Government Delay to EPR Charges
You may have seen that Defra announced yesterday that they are delaying the implementation of the full EPR charges until 2025. The department announced, in a press release, “Following extensive engagement with industry, and in light of the pressure facing consumers and businesses in the current economic context, new rules to ensure packaging producers pay for the cost of recycling their packaging will be deferred a year from October 2024 to 2025.”
This means that the full EPR costs will not now be charged to Producers in 2024.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU AND EPR DATA REPORTING?
We await further details of the delay, but it seems likely that the EPR data reporting will continue as planned as this is already law (introduced in The Packaging Waste (Data Reporting) Regulations 2023). So please continue to plan for data reporting of your January to June data by the end of September. We will tell you if there are any further changes.
COMPLYPAK EPR REPORTING PORTAL
Complypak is currently beta testing the EPR data reporting portal which will be launched shortly. The government enrolment and reporting system will also be running by mid August.
